The Stage The Cage

About this work

The Stage The Cage

laid every brick

cut every string

and within I stayed

so they could not find me

so they could not pull me

from the dance

.

dragged no more

them, us, I had ceased

walls guarded

so they could not enter

to not hear her call to me any longer

the calls,

the calls,

the knocking

the knocking

the longing

.

and at last! I woke up in silence

heightened by the having, the having, of it

but as soon her knocking ceased

so did the tempo

.

the walls which once protected

now, let in no light

and as light fled the room

the rhythm ran with it

and the silence of the room

engulfed me

.

my feet pulled in, unable to dance

as high as I was, the walls were higher

and I longed for the strings

to pull me out of the prison

the strings with them

the strings between us

our strings

our strings

they could help me

they could reach her

but if only I looked up

I could see her looking upon me

and what I had become

watching

watching

waiting

my once beloved fortress

not a cage but

a stage of my creation

walls with no connections

I held balanced on my lap

a performer

and her,

she never left

.

in the crowd,  you watched

with your walls

and your

severed strings

in hand
